Arriving in Puerto de la Cruz

Puerto de la Cruz sits in the north of Tenerife, not far from one of the island's airports, Tenerife North. However, Tenerife North is mostly used for domestic flights within the Canary Islands, or a handful of connections to Portugal and neighbouring countries.

When flying from the UK to Tenerife, you'll always land at Tenerife South instead. From there, we usually rent a car before heading off to explore the island.

Two Ways Up

Travelling along the south coast on the motorway TF-1, you head in the direction of Candelaria, then follow signs towards San Cristóbal de La Laguna. Basically, you're driving counterclockwise around the island. You can also reach Puerto de la Cruz by going clockwise instead, it just takes a little longer.

The El Teide Shortcut (Not For Me)

Another option is to drive up and over via the El Teide volcano after landing. It might save you around 7 minutes, but since I'm not a fan of heights, I won't be the one recommending it. That said, for someone who isn't afraid of heights, it's genuinely an amazing trip.

Roughly one hour after leaving the airport, you'll arrive in Puerto de la Cruz and can start exploring the town.
